As a late replacement for Buster Mathis for America in the Games, nobody could stop Frazier. No man, no circumstances, no ailments. Even a broken thumb he suffered in the semifinals could not keep him from realizing his dream. He went to Japan to win gold.

And he did.

Thus began the unforgettable career of Joe Frazier.
