“As the plane roared skyward and the lights of Montreal twinkled and winked in the distance, I took one last look at this great city where I had found so much happiness. ‘I don’t care if I ever get to the majors,’ I told myself. ‘This is the city for me. This is paradise.’”

April 18, 1946. Roosevelt Stadium Montreal, Quebec. Jackie Robinson strode to the plate in his first appearance with the Montreal Royals, wearing the number 9. He was still a year away from making history as the first black player in the Majors, but his lore was already being built. He smacked a three-run homer, stole two bases, scored four runs, had 4 RBI, and ultimately went 4-5 on the day. From that moment on, Montreal fell in love with Jackie.

And Jackie never lost his love of Montreal. Our Jackie Robinson hoodie commemorates his time up north!
