“After I heard and played with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie… Art Blakey, Sarah Vaughan and Mr. B himself, I knew I had to be in New York, where the action was.”
By the late-1950s, Miles Davis’s musical evolution had long thrown jazz classicists into an uproar, and as he pushed the boundaries with albums like “Kind of Blue” other artists in his orbit had to keep up. From modal jazz to jazz fusion, Miles was one of the main figures in the creation of “high art” in music. He both adapted to and informed each era over his lifetime and has stood as an American icon for 80 years.
As part of our Miles Davis line, we’re zeroing back in on the time and place when Miles was at his best — 1958!
