About — University Of California Berkeley
Kidd gave basketball a vision. Lynch went Beastmode between the hashmarks. These are the Campus legends.
The University of California Berkeley. A storied institution that has stood for higher education, progressiveness and for building leaders for generations, a school in which Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners have walked alongside some of the most historical sports figures of all time.
Including two of the most iconic Golden Bears who defined their eras in Berkeley – Jason Kidd on the hardwood, and Marshawn Lynch on the gridiron. Kidd gave basketball a vision. Lynch went Beastmode between the hashmarks.
From 1992-94, the Bay Area legend Kidd turned Harmon Gym into a playground. He could dish. He could score. He had eyes in the back of his head and could pick-pocket the best guards in the game. Over the course of two seasons as a Golden Bear, Kidd had a record-breaking 494 assists to go along with 204 steals. The tallies were staggering. National Freshman of the Year in 1992-93. PAC-10 Player of the Year in 1993-94. First team All-American. Legend.
And then came “Beastmode.” From 2004-2006, the bruising back that wouldn’t go down without a fight. The dictator of wills who punished defenders like it was personal. And it was. As a native of North Oakland who stayed close to home for college, Lynch left it all on the field. He towered over the Golden Bears football program like the Campanile towers over the campus.
He scored 35 TDs in 35 games, with his best season coming in 2006 – 1,356 yards on the ground. The Victory Cannon never stopped firing.
Legends both. Icons of the college game. Titans in the timeline at Cal Berkeley. We’re proud to introduce our new Roots of Fight Campus Legends collections for both Marshawn Lynch and Jason Kidd!
