Come Out Fighting!

Three years before he broke the color barrier in baseball and emerged as one of the most significant athletes of all time, Jackie Robinson was a member of the 761st Tank Battalion in World War II. Robinson held the rank of First Lieutenant, and the motto of the battalion was “Come Out Fighting!” Robinson did. He refused to move to the back of the bus during training and was arrested for not complying. It was his first stand against racial injustice, and he was acquitted shortly thereafter.

As part of Black History Month, we are paying tribute to those whose voices and actions helped bring about change in America — and nobody did more towards the fight for equality that Jackie Robinson!
