June 9, 1978. During the peak of the Golden Age of Heavyweights, an imposing figure took the reins known as “The Easton Assassin.” A specimen with a jab that crashed into opponent’s heads like a heavy lance, Larry Holmes beat Ken Norton for the crown at Caesars Palace that night. He wouldn’t give the title up for seven years, making his one of the all-time greatest reigns.
