In 1980 Andre began his legendary feud with Hulk Hogan, when, unlike their more famous matches in the late 1980s, Hogan was the villain and Andre was the hero, wrestling him at the Showdown at Shea, where after the giant pinned Hogan to win the match. This bitter feud would dominate pro-wrestling's storyline for the next decade and played a huge part in the early nationwide success of the WWF under its newly appointed owner - Vince McMahon Jr.
