It lives on as the greatest boxing event to ever take place. And if the Rumble in the Jungle should be remembered for anything, it was for the fearless challenger who couldn’t conceive of any other outcome. This is when Muhammad Ali truly became the 'People's Champ'.
It was 1974 in Zaire, and Ali courageously deployed a Rope-a-Dope strategy to win against all odds, and become heavyweight champion of the world.
Rumble was more than a fight. What happened there spread far beyond the perimeter of the canvas. It was a fantasy matchup intertwined with a cultural event. The world’s imagination was peaked, and for a brief moment Kinshasa, Zaire was the center of the Universe.
